Planning for 2022 chalet adventures
We have our new operating dates and fares for 2022 to share with you.
Granite Park Chalet:
Open June 28 through September 11 in 2022.
Fares starting at $124 for the first person in a room and $85 for each additional person in the same room.
Sperry Chalet:
Open July 9 through September 11 in 2022.
Fares starting at $253 for the first person in a room and $167 for each additional person in the same room.
Our 2022 workshop schedule is ready too. We have a new Science in the Wild workshop for you this year.
Reservations for 2022 will open on Monday, January 10 at 8:00 am Mountain Time Zone.
The best, easiest, most successful way to request a reservation will be online through this website. The only thing we can do via phone or Email is key your information into this website on your behalf, which is less accurate and less timely than doing it yourself.

Closed for the season
Thank you for another incredible summer having adventures in the mountains. Sharing the Glacier National Park backcountry with so many wonderful people is our greatest joy.
We will be taking time off this fall to plan ahead for next summer. The office will be on light duty for a while. Send an Email or leave a message if you have any pressing questions. Watch this space for information about the 2022 season, reservations will become available in January.

Ken Yarus
We would like to thank Ken Yarus for being the Sperry Chalet resident artist this summer.
Ken produced an impressive 32 plein air paintings in his 14 days staying with us and has promised more from his studio this winter. A successful residency for all.

Updated CDC Guidance on Mask Wearing
Wearing a face mask is now required in Glacier National Park federal buildings regardless of vaccination status. This is effective immediately and applies to all structures at Sperry Chalet and Granite Park Chalet.
This change is due to new guidance from the CDC and is applicable to Glacier National Park because of Flathead County's "High" (Red) category of community transmission. based on the current CDC COVID Data Tracker.
Guests of the chalets are asked to bring face masks when you visit. We continue to restrict access to chalet buildings to overnight guests only, we are also limiting dining room occupancy at both chalets. Day hikers and visitors may enjoy chalet services outdoors.

Sperry Chalet is open for 2021
I hope you are as excited as we are for an excellent hiking season!
We still have some Covid-19 restrictions in place. Again this year we will only be allowing reserved guests into the buildings, and like all other buildings in the park face masks are required if you are not Covid vaccinated. To avoid indoor crowding we will be serving dinner in two seatings and the fireplace will be cold.
Expect hot and dry conditions in the upcoming weeks. Extra water will be very important on your hike. Try to get an early start on the trail to beat the heat. Forest fire season is starting early too, we are already starting to see hazy conditions in Glacier Park coming from the fires in the northwest.
Gunsight Pass still has some hazardous snow crossings. They are melting quickly but if you don't have complete confidence in your footing and ability to handle yourself on snow the safe choice is to wait a week or two before attempting this route. The waterfall crossing at the head of Lake Ellen Wilson is running strong too. Be ready with fresh socks 'cause your feet are gonna get wet.

How Chalet guests can take advantage of Glacier’s shuttle system.
The good news is that Glacier National Park will be operating a limited shuttle system along Going to the Sun Road this season.
The difficult news is the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact how Glacier can serve the public safely. The shuttle service will have restrictions on crowding riders together and fewer service stops.
For chalet guests there are advantages to using the shuttle system: you can begin your hike at a reasonable time while avoiding traffic and parking congestion. Here are our tips for chalet guests who want to use the shuttle:

We recommend chalet guests connect with recreation.gov early on June 1.
Most of the shuttle tickets for the 2021 season go on sale June 1. This will be the best chance to get yours.
- If you cannot get a ticket on June 1, additional tickets go on sale two days ahead of time.
- Reserve tickets for your entire party at the same time, up to ten people. Your group will be considered a (COVID) family unit and will all be able to ride the shuttle together.
Be certain to purchase tickets for both your chalet arrival and departure date.
Get BOTH TICKETS validated when you check in at the visitor center. Tickets can only be validated 72 hours ahead of time so if you plan to spend more than three days in the backcountry, the shuttle will not be able to help your egress.
Through hiking will not be served by the shuttle this year.
- If you are planning a hike through Granite Park Chalet from Logan Pass to The Loop there is no shuttle pick up available at The Loop trailhead.
- For Sperry Chalet hikers there will be no shuttle service to Jackson Glacier Overlook for the Gunsight Pass through hike between Jackson Glacier Overlook and Lake McDonald.
- Our best recommendation for chalet guests using the shuttle is to plan on using the same trail to depart as you arrived on.
The shuttle system may allow drop offs at out of service shuttle stops. Ask at the visitor center and speak to your driver about being dropped off at The Loop or Jackson Glacier. You can disembark there, but no shuttle will pick you up at these locations.
Shuttle availability is limited.
We know that not all chalet guests will be able to take advantage of the shuttle system this year. If you can't get a ticket or your preferred hiking route is not available be prepared to be self-sufficient with your own vehicle for getting to and from the trailheads.
- We continue to recommend early starts to your hiking day. Not only is the hiking better in the cool morning air but this year navigating Going to the Sun Road and finding trailhead parking will be easier the earlier start you get.
As we all know the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt our lives and plans, Glacier National Park, and all the services therein are committed to making the best efforts at eliminating the risks from this virus. The limited service available from the Glacier Shuttle comes from the necessity to protect each other. We would like to see all the visitors to Glacier National Park contributing to social distancing, mask wearing, and helping each other avoid this disease. If we can be successful this year additional services will become available next year.

Glacier National Park ticketed entry.
There will be a ticketed entry system for private vehicles entering Glacier National Park on Going to the Sun Road this summer. This will be in effect from Memorial Day to Labor Day; May 28 to September 6, 2021.

This entry system affects all chalet access along Going to the Sun Road.
For chalet reservation holders: Your chalet reservation confirmation is your entry ticket.
At the entry gate you will need to show your chalet reservation confirmation for that day. Be sure to bring a copy of your chalet reservation confirmation with you. You can use the paper confirmation we sent by post, or you may use the Email confirmation displayed on your phone or device. Be advised, there may not be internet service available at the entry gate so be sure that Email has been downloaded to your device beforehand.
For chalet day hikers: You will need an entry reservation ticket to reach chalet trail heads by private vehicle.
For chalet horseback rides: your horseback ride reservation is your entry ticket. Check with Swan Mountain Outfitters for more details.

Thank you for your enthusiasm
We continue to be grateful and thankful for all the chalet guests we have been able plan Glacier adventures with these past weeks, and we feel regret for all the Glacier enthusiasts we are not able to serve. Since we opened chalet reservations for the 2021 summer season we have received enough reservation requests to completely sell out Glacier Park's chalets over four times over. As much as we want to share these places with everyone, we are unfortunately unable.
We know that deposit payments are coming due this next week. If you have mailed your payment and have not yet heard back, please do not worry. We know that mail sometimes moves slowly here in Montana and here in our offices. We grant every benefit of the doubt and we will not be canceling reservations indiscriminately. If you are anxiously watching for possible openings from cancellation be advised that there will not be another sudden goldrush for openings this week or any time soon. Our availability calendar is there to inform you if and when rooms open up.
We are also learning that some Internet providers are rejecting chalet Emails. We are working with our ISP to resolve this. If you would like a posted confirmation or just to double check a reservation detail we will be near the office phone line from 9am to 2pm Mountain time.

The bittersweet saga of chalet reservations
Once again our hearts are warmed by all the love and enthusiasm shown toward Sperry and Granite Park Chalets, and once again our hearts break for all the good people we will be unable to serve.
We are still working through the thousands of reservation requests sent in Monday morning, it may take into next week before everyone hears back from us. We send an Email back to every request we handle, but we know that the Internet eats some of them. Especially the large volume of nearly identical declining Emails. Some internet providers find those Emails suspicious and do not deliver them. Successful reservations will also receive a statement by post.
If we do not have good luck with your reservation request please check back periodically through the winter and spring. Openings from cancellations may create new opportunities.
